The Dentistry's Win In The New Threads, Smokey Bones Conquers the Battle of the Brothers!
Week 3 of the Berks Summer Classic delivered another weekend full of offense, fast-paced hockey, and statement wins as teams continue to battle for positioning at Body Zone Sports and Wellness Complex in Wyomissing.
The weekend opened with a matchup between Palacios Dentistry and Verbero Hockey Co., with both teams searching for their first win of the season. After a back-and-forth opening period that ended tied 2-2, Palacios Dentistry exploded offensively in the second period, scoring five goals to take control of the game. Defenseman Tyler Pettoni had a breakout performance, recording 4 points with a hat trick and an assist, while Gavin O’Neill quarterbacked the offense with four assists of his own. Palacios held off Verbero to earn their first victory of the summer with a high-scoring 9-6 final.
Game 2 featured one of the most anticipated matchups of the season — the “Battle of the Brothers” between Smokey Bones and A. Moyer Masonry. Smokey Bones wasted no time setting the tone, storming out to a 4-goal lead in the first period. AMM responded with two goals of their own and battled throughout the night, but they spent most of the game trying to claw back into it. Unlike last season’s heated matchups, penalties were kept to a minimum this time around, a sign that teams are beginning to realize just how dangerous power plays can be in this year’s highly skilled Summer Classic. Reed Hirneisen led the way for Smokey Bones with 3 points (2 goals, 1 assist), while Logan Baldwin buried his first two goals of the season in the opening frame to announce his arrival on the scoresheet. Baldwin was mic’d up for the game as well, so fans can expect some entertaining social media content coming soon. For AMM, Alec Moyer, Matt Sacks, and Dylan Hayick each recorded 2-point performances in the loss.
Saturday night wrapped up with a high-skill showdown between Seneca Dairy Systems and undefeated New Era Hockey. Despite New Era’s loaded offensive lineup, Seneca stayed within striking distance through two periods, trailing just 5-4 thanks to a gritty team effort. However, New Era’s depth and speed eventually took over as Seneca appeared to run out of gas late in the game. Bray Frick continued his dominant start to the season with another monster performance, recording 6 points on 3 goals and 3 assists. New Era pulled away for a convincing 9-4 win and remains undefeated alongside Smokey Bones through three weeks of play.
The league will now take a short break for Memorial Day Weekend before returning for Week 4 action. Enjoy the holiday weekend, stay safe, and get ready for another exciting stretch of Berks Summer Classic hockey!
