Six Teams, Fresh Energy Headline Start of 2nd Annual Berks Summer Classic

The puck drops next weekend for the 2nd Annual Berks Summer Classic, hosted by Berks Classic Hockey at the Body Zone Sports and Wellness Complex, marking an exciting new chapter for the growing summer league. After a successful inaugural season, the league expands from four to six teams, bringing deeper competition, new storylines, and heightened expectations across the board.

Leading the field are defending champions Smokey Bones, who return with a target on their backs after capturing last year’s title. Familiar contenders A. Moyer Masonry and Verbero Hockey Co. are also back, each looking to build on last summer’s experience and make a stronger push for the Cup.

This season introduces a mix of fresh identities and evolving rosters. Palacios Dentistry returns as a sponsor but ices a revamped lineup featuring new faces eager to make their mark. Seneca Dairy Systems enters with a blend of returning talent and a major storyline: the Alspaugh brothers, who depart from Smokey Bones to lead their own squad, instantly adding intrigue to the competition.

Rounding out the field is New Era Hockey, a brand-new team packed with young talent. With high expectations and early buzz, they enter the season firmly on the hot seat as a potential contender to take home the championship.

Games will be played Friday and Saturday nights throughout the summer, offering consistent, high-energy action for players and fans alike. The league will take scheduled breaks on Memorial Day Weekend and the 4th of July Weekend.

At its core, Berks Classic Hockey continues to emphasize its mission: delivering structured, competitive, and fun hockey experiences that bring players, families, and the community together. With a focus on sportsmanship, teamwork, and development, the Summer Classic aims to grow both the game and its local traditions.
